Did you know that March is Women’s History Month?  The self-identifying 162 million women of various backgrounds have been positively impacting our country for years.  From making incredible scientific discoveries, holding high official office position, to owning small businesses and delivering babies, women can be considered the backbone of the USA.

Women drive 70-80% of all consumer purchasing, yet in many cases, they are still being paid on average, 77 cents to every man’s dollar.  Luckily, we live in an era in which people are not afraid to speak out.

There is an exciting movement happening on March 8th. According to the Women’s March organizers, “…together we will mark the day by recognizing the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system–while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.”

No matter how you identify, YOU can make a difference on the March 8th movement A Day Without a Woman by:

  1. Taking the day off from paid and unpaid labor if you identify as a woman.
  2. Avoiding shopping for one whole day (with exceptions for women and minority owned local business).
  3. Wearing RED in solidarity with the International Women’s Strike.

“When millions of us stood together in January, we saw clearly that our army of love greatly outnumbers that of fear, greed, and hatred. Let’s raise our voices once again to say that women’s rights are human rights, regardless of a woman’s race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, sexual identity, fender expression, economic status, age, or disability.”

We at the Wellness Office are very excited to stand in solidarity. Share with us how you participate on this monumental day in history by tagging us in your Instagram photos @wcuwellnesspromotion
