Spring is upon us! Ending the hibernation season of our luxurious manes, with the spring and summer vastly approaching it is time to prepare these protective styles for upcoming heat of the season. From locs, relaxers, short cuts and kinks, as a woman of color, I understand how important your hair is to you! Our hair is an expression of self, and self-identity! Because our hair is an important aspect in our lives, it is crucial that we learn how to take care of it properly, and style it properly. Here are a few tips on how to keep your crown flourishing at all times

Tips for washing hair

  1. Wash your hair (try to use a sulfate free shampoo)
  2. Condition, condition, condition! (Conditioner is your BEST FRIEND!)
  3. Section your hair
  4. Detangle your hair with a wide tooth comb
  5. Moisturize your hair
  6. Style your hair as desired

**These steps can be used on natural and relaxed hair**

Hairstyles:

Bantu Knots

  1. Part hair into sections
  2. Apply moisturizer, and water to each section
  3. Twist hair into a circular motion until it’s in a coil
  4. Tuck the ends of your hair into a coil
  5. Use a bobby pin to hold coil the knot in place
  6. Unravel the knots when they are dry *Drying times vary dependent on hair texture, but on average takes around 12-24 hours to fully dry
  7. Add oil to hair   bantuknots

Goddess Braid Crown

  1. Part hair into two sections
  2. Apply moisturizer, and oil
  3. Starting with one section of hair, begin the braid form the part, and braid your hair all the way down
  4. Repeat step 3 for the second section of hair
  5. Take the ends of each braid and bobby pin them together
