Slay. Be woke. Be you! Embrace your Black Girl Magic! It’s that simple.

About two years ago, CaShawn Thompson created this phrase to inspire black women all around the world. She wanted to let them know that they are nothing less than resilient or beautiful. Ever since CaShawn coined this term, the hash tag has been flooding social media like wild fire! From magazines such as Essence and Teen Vogue to T-shirts with this addictive, insanely positive catch phrase.

Many may be wondering what #BlackGirlMagic actually means? Varying meanings exists based on personal definition. Huffington Post says that Black Girl Magic is “a term used to illustrate the universal awesomeness of black women. It’s celebrating anything we deem particularly dope, inspiring, or mind-blowing about ourselves.”

Thompson stated that she wanted to get this term out in order to celebrate black women, and to make it known that black women do great things, even though they are not always understood. Many celebrities such as Zendaya Coleman, Solange Knowles, Janelle Monaé, and Tracee Ellis Ross have become very well-known figures of embracing their Black Girl Magic.

No matter what your definition is, always keep in mind that Black Girl Magic is REAL! We are dope. We are smart. We are black. We are beautiful. ❤
