November is National Pomegranate Month! If you have ever walked past a pile of red, round, funny-looking fruit in the grocery store wondering what they were, chances are they were pomegranates. Whether or not you are familiar with this versatile fruit, you may be interested in knowing that the pomegranate offers a lot of health benefits!

Pomegranates are a great source of antioxidants. Studies have shown that the antioxidants in pomegranates can:
• Improve blood flow to the heart to prevent heart disease and help those who have heart disease
• Decrease bad cholesterol and plaque build up
• Increase good cholesterol
• Slow cancer growth
• Lower blood pressure

So the next time you come across a pomegranate, check it out and experience the pomegranate power; it is its month after all.

Antioxidant Rich Smoothie pom
Serves: 2, Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
8 cups organic baby spinach
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup blueberries, frozen
1 cup strawberries, frozen
8 dates, cut in half
2 tablespoons flaxseeds, ground
1/2 avocado, optional
Instructions:
Blend all ingredients together. This is delicious & very healthy!
