Want to get active but don’t want to miss your favorite shows? Try exercising during the commercial breaks!

Studies show that in one hour of television, commercials can add up to almost 20 minutes!

Instead of checking Facebook for status updates during the commercials, try working on your fitness with these simple exercises that can be done in a small place like your dorm!

  • Jumping Jacks
  • Squats
  • Crunches
  • Push-ups/planks
  • Dancing
  • Walking in place

Every commercial break starts a new circuit! Begin with small with 10-15 reps of each exercise and add 10 reps when a new break begins. Mix it up by alternating different exercises for each break. You can try jumping jacks, squats, and planks first then try some light dancing like zumba to your favorite tunes or even different types of crunches.

After you’ve conquered these exercises during the commercial breaks, why not try incorporating exercises during the next show and take breaks during the commercials? This will increase the duration and intensity of your exercise, helping you get MORE out of your TV time.

Exercising doesn’t always have to be hard to manage. Just find ways to add exercises to your favorite things! If you have time to watch an hour of TV, you have time to add some physical activity in your daily routine. By exercising in the comfort of your dorm you don’t have to feel uncomfortable and you can move at your own pace. So the next time you grab the remote, grab your athletic gear and start moving!
