Finals week. Those two small words are powerful enough to stress out any college student. It may seem the only way of surviving is to sleep less and stress more. But don’t give in that easy! There are many ways to keep focused and prepared other than drinking pots of coffee.

What are those ways to help you get through the finals? I’m glad you asked.

Plan ahead:  This is the first step to take. Be familiar with your final week schedule. Keeping track of your tests, papers, and assignments will get you planning for the future and will eliminate avoidable stress. This can be done by printing out a blank calendar and filling in all of your obligations. Another way is to use a calendar on your phone (if it has one) so it will remind you on that day when things are due.

Make a to-do list: Laying out what you need to study for in an organized manner is a good way to visually see the tasks you need to accomplish, and will lessen your chances of forgetting anything.

Attitude is everything: We can’t control all the events that happen in our life, but we can control the attitude we have towards our daily obstacles. Positive self-talk is a great way to decrease our stress over finals. Tell yourself you will study hard for your final and will do better because of that, rather than stressing about how hard it may be.

Take a time out: Relaxation techniques are a great way to take a break from studying and ease your mind. Find a quiet place and meditate for just 10 minutes, or try yoga which will improve your concentration and work your body at the same time.

So don’t let finals week beat you without a fight. There are plenty of things you can do to get through stressful situations, even finals week. Let The Office of Wellness Education help you de-stress this week by taking a break for Yoga on the Quad!
